Diagnosing electrical & control system faults

Daniel Cemino brings 12 years of experience across manufacturing, food processing, agricultural and live production environments to fault finding — working out why a fault is actually happening, and understanding how the system is supposed to operate, rather than replacing components until the symptom goes away. Intermittent faults

Faults that come and go — a machine that trips occasionally, a signal that drops out under load, a fault that won't reproduce on demand — are worked through by testing under the conditions that trigger them and tracing the circuit or logic involved, rather than a single visual check.

Control system faults

Faults inside the control system itself — the PLC logic, HMI displays, drives or the wiring connecting them — are traced back through the system to understand what's actually happening, rather than assumed from the symptom alone.

Diagnosing within live production

Where a site can't fully stop, diagnostic work is planned around what can be safely isolated, so testing can proceed while the rest of the line keeps running.

They’re worked through by testing under the conditions that trigger them, tracing the circuit or control logic involved, and ruling out possibilities systematically rather than swapping parts until the symptom stops.
Often, yes. Diagnostic testing can be carried out on the affected equipment while the rest of the line keeps running, staged around what can be safely isolated.
